Participation of Elizaveta Korotkikh in the forum for postgraduate students on education in Hong Kong
Elizaveta Korotkikh, a second-year academic graduate student and research intern at the Centre for Vocational Education and Skills Development, participated in the AEDSI Forum for Asian Education Graduate Students on December 16-18. The forum was held at the Hong Kong University of Education, which is ranked in the top 20 in the QS World Rankings for Education and Pedagogy.
The forum focused on various aspects of life for graduate students: from psychological well-being and stress management to building a career strategy, preparing publications and interdisciplinary research.
“I found the format of the presentations - sharing sessions - particularly valuable, when the speaker describes his/her path as a graduate student, shares his/her experience, and talks about difficulties encountered and ways to overcome them. The goal of many of the presentations was not so much a “vertical” transfer of knowledge from a more experienced colleague to novice graduate students, but rather an informal story about the personal path of a researcher. Reviewers from top first-quartile journals spoke in detail about the basic principles of working on a publication - from choosing the most relevant journal to preparing the text and writing a cover letter to the editor. In my opinion, this is a very useful event for beginning researchers, first-year graduate students and undergraduates who are just preparing for an academic career,” notes Elizaveta.
At the forum, the Elizaveta got acquainted with researchers from leading Chinese universities in the field of “Education and Pedagogy”. In addition, Elizaveta exchanged experiences in conducting seminars with the organizers of the AEDSI forum - graduate students from Hong Kong University of Education and East China Normal University. “Chinese colleagues spoke with great interest about the International Postgraduate Seminar held at the Institute of Education HSE University and expressed their desire to cooperate with us and share their works within our seminar.”
