The International PhD Seminar in Education recently hosted its fourth session, "Strategies for Success in Scientific Publishing", offering aspiring authors a roadmap to navigate the publishing landscape. On December 23rd, participants gained invaluable insights from Dr. Melody Zhang (Executive Associate Editor, ECNU Review of Education) on how to enhance their research's visibility and impact.

The third session of the International PhD Seminar in Education was successfully held on November 25. The seminar provided a platform for participants to engage in meaningful discussions and exchange ideas on pressing issues surrounding gender inequalities in education and the labor market. Meghna Khurania from Jawaharlal Nehru University, India, and Margarita Kiryushina from HSE University, Russia, delivered insightful presentations, highlighting the significance of addressing these challenges globally.

Elizaveta Korotkikh, a second-year academic graduate student and research intern in the Centre for Vocational Education and Skills Development, participated in the AEDSI Forum for Asian Education Graduate Students Dec. 16-18.

Marina Kholmanskaya, an academic PhD student now in her third year and a junior researcher in the Laboratory for Curriculum Design, interned at the University of Auckland in New Zealand in August-September 2024.

Galina Igorevna Shulgina, research intern at the International Laboratory for Assessment of Practices and Innovations in Education, participated in an internship at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) in July 2024 as part of the Academic PhD program.

Educational Studies, an academic journal founded by HSE University in 2004, has become the first Russian journal to enter the first quartile in Education in Scopus. This success relies on high requirements and thorough selection of publications, when the editorial board tries to select not just good papers, but particularly innovative studies.

The British Educational Research Association, BERA, has announced the winners of its Early Career Researchers Award, founded this year to recognize emerging researchers. The new award’s first two winners are Saule Bekova, Research Fellow at theInstitute of Education of the Centre of Sociology of Higher Education, and Binwei Lu of Durham University (UK). In the announcement, the organizing committee praised them as ‘outstanding scholars’ and noted the potential significance of their research for the field of education.

Admissions to tuition-free doctoral studies at HSE open on February 01, 2018. International students can choose from 15 PhD programmes in fields ranging from Mathematics to Art and Design. The programmes are offered at HSE campuses in Moscow, Saint Petersburg, and Nizhny Novgorod. It is not necessary to speak Russian in order to pursue a PhD at HSE – the thesis can be written in English. Several international students are already pursuing doctoral degrees at HSE and one of them, Keunwon Choi from South Korea, has shared his impressions with us.
