On February the 2nd, 2016 the on-site review of the proposal for the German-Russian PhD Programme «Informality and Institutions. A Russian-German Comparative Perspective» submitted to the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) took place in Berlin.

The idea to develop such joint Russian-German project has become a result of more than 2 year fruitful collaboration between the High School of Economics (HSE) and Freie Universität Berlin (FUB). The on-site review involved the 45 minutes presentation of the proposal followed by the 1, 30 hour discussion. As the presenters of the joint programme the following colleagues from the HSE and FUB have to be mentioned – Academic Director of the Graduate School in Sociology, professor of the Department of Sociology Victoria Antonova (HSE), the Head of the Department of Sociology, professor Alexander Chepurenko (HSE), Director of the Institute for East European Studies& Institute of Sociology at FUB, professor Katharina Bluhm, professor Sabine Kropp, Otto Suhr Institute of Political Science and junior professor Theocharis Grigoriadis, Institute for East European Studies & Department of Economics.

If supported by DGF, the PhD Programme “Informality and Institutions” will offer good possibilities to combine expertise of the well-known and courage of young researchers in investigating an important, but often hidden side of every society’s functioning. The final decision of DFG on the HSE-FUB proposal is anticipated by the end of May 2016.
