Аннотация

The course discusses and develops the main themes in contemporary philosophy of mind and cognitive science from theoretic and from historic perspective. The aim of the course is twofold: a) students will be introduced to central topics of the divergent theories of mind from physicalist and non-reductive perspective and b) will be given historical context of contemporary philosophy of cognitive science. The course introduces and discusses the theoretical perspectives and methods together with historical context of such problems like free will, personal identity, mind-body problem, phenomenal consciousness and qualia, mental causality, mental content, supervenience, materialism, functionalism and non-reductive theories as well as some continental proposals and alternatives such as the absolute idealism and phenomenology of Brentano and Husserl.
